We have all seen it in the local news, there are plenty of people pretending to be licensed roofing contractors in Minnesota this summer.

Don't fall victim to their scams and stay safe using Cole's tips.

Low Bids

If you have gotten quotes from a few contractors and one is WAY lower than the others, it is a good indicator that they won't be replacing everything in the scope of work.

They might be cutting corners somewhere or they might not be using the correct materials for the job.

Large Down Payment

At Capital, we ask for the insurance deducible or the Actual Cash Value check (the first check provided by the insurance company).

If someone asks for more than that, then you should contact another contractor or your insurance agent to see if that is reasonable and ok.

Deductibles

Speaking of deductibles, if a contractor offers to pay your deducible for you, do not let them do that!

That is insurance fraud and could get you and the contractor into huge trouble.

Permits

If the contractor you're hiring asks you to pull the permits, do not do that!

Any licensed contractor in the state of Minnesota will pull their own permits, pay for them, and get reimbursed at the end of the project.
